Our STORY

Touch African Lives Foundation (TAL Foundation) is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life for vulnerable children especially children with incarcerated parents, youth, and communities across Uganda. Our core programs focus on education support, health awareness, community empowerment, and social welfare initiatives. TAL Foundation works in close collaboration with local communities to deliver sustainable and impactful programs that address critical social needs.

REASON for our EXISTANCE

Our existance is rooted in providing localized, holistic, and sustainable care that fills gaps left by formal systems, ensuring that children with incarcerated parents/caretakers, abandoned, or at-risk children can thrive in their own communities. TAL Foundation exist to transform lives from survival to thriving by addressing immediate needs while fostering long-term empowerment and protection.

Our Mission

“Let us reach out to the children. Let us do whatever we can to support their fight to rise above their pain and suffering.”

Children of prisoners.jpg

In Uganda, children of imprisoned parents constitute a highly vulnerable and often invisible group, estimated to number around 200,000 at any given time with around 300+ children residing in prison facilities alongside their incarcerated mothers. These children frequently experience severe social, emotional, and economic challenges, including poverty, stigma, lack of care, inadequate nutrition, restricted space for play, and poor healthcare access often stemming from the incarceration of a primary caregiver and others being incarcerated with their mothers.

In addition, vulnerable children in high-risk communities face severe, intersecting challenges, primarily poverty, lack of education, high risks of exploitation, abuse, and chronic health issues. They frequently suffer from food insecurity, loss of parental care, and, in many cases, are forced into child labor or early marriages forcing many to become caregivers themselves, losing their childhood to, or, in some cases, the need to support their, survival.

In response, TAL Foundation has designed programs that mitigate these problems for the children with incarcerated parents, children incarcerated with their parents and vulnerable children in high-risk communities in Uganda. Together with our partners, we are running projects to  help these innocent souls transit from lives of crime, poverty, lack of education to empowerment, access to education and good health.
